The city of Montreal is the largest city in Quebec. The official language of the city is French, and only the city of Paris, France, has more French-speaking residents. Because of its location, Montreal experiences a wide range of temperatures. The winter sees large amounts of snow each year, with a daily maximum temperature of -5.7, while the summer usually sees temperatures of 26.2C. There is high humidity in the summer, which makes the temperature seem much warmer than it actually is. Because of the history of the city, there are many buildings in their original form that mix with the modern structures. Montreal was named a UNESCO City of Design, recognizing its design community, and is the home for the International Design Alliance.

The economy of the city is largely driven by industries including aerospace, telecommunications, and electronic goods, as well as by the Port of Montreal that is the largest inland port in the world. Film and television production are also a major part of the city, as is the video game industry, and the finance industry. There is a lot to do in the city, and it is host to several major festivals, including the Just For Laughs comedy festival, the Montreal International Jazz Festival, and the Montreal World Film Festival. The performing arts also have a strong presence in the city, as do professional sports teams. Montreal also has the highest concentration of post-secondary students of all major cities in North America.
