The city of Oshawa lies on the shoreline of Lake Ontario, and is about 60 kilometers east of Toronto. The Canadian division of General Motors Corporation has its headquarters and major assembly plants here, which is a major part of the city's economy. Other industries that thrive in the area include the manufacturing of mining equipment, steel fabrication, and rubber products. It is also home to Ontario's largest mall east of Toronto. Because of the prevalence of the automotive industry in the city, Durham College offers degree programs in Automotive Engineering, and Nuclear Engineering, and is the only school in Canada to do so. The University of Ontario Institute of Technology can also be found in the city.
Oshawa features several art galleries and museums to visit, and well as local theatres. One of the main attractions is the Canadian Automotive Museum, which holds over 70 vehicles that are on display in an authentic 1920's car dealership. There are also over 2,100 acres of beautiful parklands, hiking trails, bike trails, and the Waterfront Trail along the shores of Lake Ontario. Another unique attraction is the Oak Ridges Moraine, which is a unique glacial landform that spans Oshawa and beyond. There are numerous hotels, and restaurants to suit every taste. As well, because of the current cost of living, and ample amounts of jobs, along with its proximity and transportation ease to Toronto, the city is fast becoming one of the best cities in Canada to relocate to.
