The smallest province in Canada is Prince Edward Island. Because of its small stature, the province is proud of its laid back style, and invites tourists to come and relax, visit beaches, play golf, or tour the countryside that is well known because of its pastoral scenery and lush agricultural lands. As well, the province is well known in literature as Lucy Maud Montgomery used the area for inspiration for her classic novel Anne of Green Gables, and much of what Montgomery saw while writing her novel is still in existence today as the province has strived to keep its natural landscape.
Even though the Island appreciates its tourists, it remains close to its roots by placing strict guidelines for non-resident land ownership, creating a strongly loyal population. The population is most densely concentrated around the capital city of Charlottetown, with most of the remaining population living around Summerside.
The climate of the province is different than most parts of the country, and is largely determined by its surrounding waters, which results in moderately cold winters, and comfortable summers. The economy of the province is fueled by fishery, agriculture, and tourism, and is the home to one University.
Prince Edward Island tends to have more homes for rent than apartments, which is consistent with the cozy feel of the entire area. As a result, apartments tend to be higher in cost, but do offer a lot of space for what you are paying for. Also, as near any universities, there are numerous apartments available, but are mostly larger units that are more suitable for roommate situations.
