While Nova Scotia is the most populous province in Atlantic Canada, it is also the second smallest province in the country. Located on the far Eastern side of the country, Nova Scotia is almost entirely surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, thus making fishing one of the most important industries of the province, along with mining, forestry, and agriculture.
Nova Scotia has the warmest climate in Canada, with winters barely falling below 0°C, and summers climbing to over 20°C. Because of its location, Nova Scotia does see a lot of precipitation, as well as fog.
The province has 12 Universities, and an extensive art culture, including writing, and film. NSCAD can be found here, which is Canada's leading art, craft and design university. Celtic music has a home in this province that is famous worldwide, and the province is home to the Symphony Nova Scotia, which is the only full orchestra performing in Atlantic Canada. As well, because of the strong Irish background of many of the residents, Irish-influenced styles of music are prevalent, especially on mainland Nova Scotia, in the rural villages.
The apartments in Halifax tend to have a higher rent than the other cities in the province since the city is the major economic area of the province. However, even though the rent may be a bit higher, often times amenities such as paid utilities, and an in-room washer and dryer are included, which will help to bring the overall bills down as you don't have to worry about paying a lot of money for air conditioning during an especially hot summer. Also, apartments close to the universities command a much higher asking rate, so if interested in these locations, it might be wise to expect to live with a roommate.
